Congratulations to the DIS Educator of the Year: Brett McLaughlin

TOY

Brett McLaughlin has been a dedicated, passionate, and versatile educator at DIS since 2011. Brett strives to make our school a better place for his colleagues and students. He currently serves as a member of the SLT (School Leadership Team) committee here at DIS. As a member of this integral committee, he works hard to improve instructional practices as well as the climate and culture of the building.

In addition, Brett facilitates the Robotics club here at school, and inspires students through various STEAM activities. He has supported math learners by teaching Bears Club, but has also enriched the highest of math learners by teaching accelerated math. Since beginning his tenure here at DIS, he has taught in various settings including both fourth and fifth grades, as well as working as part of a teaching partnership. These experiences have molded him into the excellent educator he is today.

Mr McLaughlin also collaborates with colleagues across grade levels in his role as a chair of a union committee. Brett also takes time each year to serve as a member of the DEA scholarship committee, which awards college scholarships to future educators.

Brett has truly made a difference here at DIS. He is well respected by administrators, colleagues, parents, and students. He makes all learners feel welcomed and cared for. Brett is invested in his students.  He takes time to attend student events outside of school, and always shows an interest in their lives.

As dedicated as Brett is to the emotional needs of his students, he also sets the highest of expectations, and provides his students a top notch education. He is extremely skilled and well versed in the standards his students must meet. Brett McLaughlin is truly deserving of this honor. Congratulations on a job well done! -Dr. Brian Brotschul
