Dear Parents,

It is my honor to welcome you and your child to my classroom for the 2019/2020 school year!  I am so excited to meet all of my students and their families!  To start, I will tell you a little about my previous educational experiences.  After growing up in Burlington Township, I have worked at all schools in this district as a substitute teacher for many years.  In addition, I have served as an Instructional Assistant at the Burlington Township High School.  I completed my student teaching at Fountain Woods Elementary School, where I taught fifth grade for the 2012/2013 school year.  With final approval of the State Department of Education, I received my certification of eligibility with advanced standing in May of 2012.  I fulfilled the second of two Long-term Substitute positions for fifth grade at Delran Intermediate School in 2013/2014.  Finally, for the past five years, I have been thrilled to be teaching third grade here at DIS.

Throughout the course of my formal education and various teaching experiences, I have learned the importance of keeping students vigorously engaged in meaningful activities throughout the school day.  The students must be task-oriented in order to maximize the learning and minimize off-task behavior.  I have established routines and procedures and place a high premium on student involvement and participation in class.  In addition, I find that providing clear directions and assigning appropriate guided and independent practice strategies will assist in the development of each child’s individual learning needs.

The classroom is a place to encourage all students to grow socially and academically; therefore, behavioral practices play a crucial role in establishing a cohesive educational environment.  Holding students accountable for their conduct in the present will further prepare them to function in a social context and assist them to adapt as productive citizens who thrive in future endeavors.  The physical and emotional safety of each child is always my priority and our district does a fantastic job of making sure our students are happy and safe.  Furthermore, communication is a significant aspect of establishing the workings of a classroom.  Throughout this year, my website and necessary updates via email will keep you aware of important information related to assignments and school events.  Please feel free to contact me with any questions that you may have.  Together, we can make this a great year!
