B.E.A.R.S. Binder

Becoming Efficient and Responsible Students

This year our classroom will be using a B.E.A.R.S.  binder.  This binder was created to ensure student organization and responsibility as well as to facilitate communication between home and school.  I believe that communication between the classroom and parents is one of the most important factors for a successful school year.  This binder will enable students to stay organized and keep parents informed!

Each section of the B.E.A.R.S. binder will serve a purpose and I will make sure to review this carefully with students in the first weeks of school, as well as with parents at Back to School Night.  Students are responsible for packing their binders and taking them home, daily.  They should share the contents with parents as it may contain school events, graded work, and other important information.  Thank you in advance for helping your child become efficient and responsible!

Sections of the B.E.A.R.S. Binder -

(These items will be provided at school).

Homework Folder:  This folder will be used for any worksheets that are being sent home for homework or office information/forms/permission slips that need to be reviewed by parents and possibly returned to school as soon as possible.  There will also be graded papers in this folder.  Please check this folder each and every night.

Math Folder:  This folder will contain helpful handouts or classwork students completed in any given unit.  Students should empty their math folder only after they have taken the assessment for that unit.

Science/Social Studies Folder:  This folder will contain handouts and classwork students have completed for Science or Social Studies.  These folders should be emptied only after the completion of a unit assessment.

Reading Log:  This log will be used to keep track of all of the reading that students will be doing each night.  It should be completed daily.

Agenda: Students will copy all homework assignments or special announcements/information into their agenda on a daily basis.  The agenda should remain in the B.E.A.R.S. binder at all times to ensure that it is reviewed by parents and returned to school.  Please sign your child’s agenda each and every night so you know that he/she completed all of his/her homework and to receive any updates or reminders.
